Frequently asked question

Why are you no longer offering the food photo cards along with the 1-4 year resource?

Everyone loved the food photo cards that go with the 1-4 year resource, but they proved too expensive for CWT to produce and send out. We talked to lots of people who were using the resource and the best way of making the resource available seemed to be for us to offer the book with a CD Rom and a few example cards, along with instructions for getting cards made up either by the printer who did our cards for us or by a printer local to where you are. This means that we only have to send out books which are much easier to post, people can choose how many cards they want made up and can even customise them to their own setting if they want to. Details of how to use our printer to obtain food photo cards can be found here.

Why are the photos not included in the book part of the 1-4 year resource as they are in the first year of life resource?

The first year of life resource contains 56 meal photos and we decided to put these in the book as this was manageable alongside the first food and finger food photos. We thought it was unlikely photo cards would be used in the same way with parents and carers as with children. The 1-4 years resource has over 80 food photo cards and 17 pages of individual food photographs so it would be very big if all these were included in the book itself - but we might consider doing an all hard copy version if people think they would find that useful.

Can I download the food photographs from this website?

Not at the moment, We may be able to offer downloading of resources in the future though, so sign up to the CWT newsletter for information.

Who can I go to for help with menu planning in a child care setting?

If you want help with menu planning for a child care setting (a nursery, children’s centre, childminder setting for example) you can usually get support from your local community dietitians. Alternatively check the CWT website to find a list of dietitians and registered public health nutritionists  across the UK who can help with training in this area.

What software did you use to plan the menus in your books?

We used software produced by Nutmeg. (www.nutmeg-uk.com)

Do you have food photographs suitable for supporting adults or older people to eat well?

Yes - we have produced food photos showing how adults can eat well and we are also producing resources especially for older people or people who may need to alter the texture of their food. For information about these resources see the CWT website.
